Youth are at high risk of brain injuries from sports, falls, bicycle accidents, motor vehicle crashes, farming accidents, and as a pedestrian being hit by a vehicle. Rural Missouri youth are our future farmers.
Pediatric traumatic brain injury leads to 500,000 emergency department visits and approximately 60,000 hospitalizations in the U.S. each year.
2,774 youth died from brain injury in 2020. The total TBI-related deaths that year were 64,362.
