2013 Conference Overview
The Brain Injury Association of Missouri 9th Annual Statewide Conference is an educational opportunity for healthcare professionals as well as survivors of brain injury and their families. This is the only conference in Missouri established to specifically address issues relating to brain injury.
Sessions will be held on Thursday, October 17 and Friday, October 18 focusing on topics of most interest to healthcare professionals, rehabilitation specialists, physicians, neuropsychologists, vocational counselors, social workers, case managers, and other professionals who work in the field of brain injury.
On Saturday, October 19, a Survivor and Family Day will be held free-of-charge for survivors of brain injury and their families. Saturday will also feature the Awards Luncheon and Annual Meeting. Award Nominations
Each year the Brain Injury Association of Missouri (BIA-MO) honors individuals and organizations that have made an outstanding contribution in the brain injury community.
The BIA-MO Annual Awards 2013 will be presented at the Awards Luncheon and Annual Meeting on Saturday, October 18 at the Brain Injury Association of Missouri 9th Annual Statewide Conference.
Nominations for the following BIA-MO Awards wil be accepted.
Courage Award
Honors the success of an individual with brain injury.
Point of Light Award
Honors an individual who has provided outstanding service to persons with brain injury. Nominations must be made by an individual with brain injury.
Volunteer of the Year
Honors an individual who has furthered the mission of the Brain Injury Association of Missouri through his or her volunteer service with the organization.
Legislator of the Year
Honors an elected official representing citizens of Missouri who has supported the prevention of brain injuries, services for survivors of brain injury or their families, or supported issues important to the brain injury community.
Bill Buell Memorial Award
Honors a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor or Case Manager who has provided outstanding service to the brain injury community within or outside of his or her employment responsibilities.
Service Excellence Award — Prevention
Honors an individual or organization for lasting contributions in brain injury prevention.
Service Excellence Award — Community Service
Honors an individual or organization for exceptional service within the brain injury community.
Service Excellence Award — Public Relations
Honors an individual or organization for outreach and educational efforts that have increased awareness of brain injury, needs within the brain injury community, and the Brain Injury Association of Missouri.
Lifetime Achievement Award
Honors an individual or organization for significant contributions and long-term impact to the brain injury community.
Hotel Accomodations
The St. Charles Convention Center is adjacent to the Embassy Suites—St. Charles Hotel. Embassy Suites--St. Charles Hotel is an upscale full-service all-suite hotel with spacious two-room suites which are beautifully decorated with a private bedroom and spacious living room. All of the suites are fully equipped with two televisions, a refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, and two telephones with data ports, high speed internet access and a well lit dining/work table. The Hotel also features its own day spa—Spa Botanica. Guests are treated to a complimentary cooked-to-order breakfast and a nightly manager’s reception.
The Embassy Suites—St. Charles is just minutes away from Historic Main Street, Saint Charles. The hotel offers a complimentary shuttle within a three mile radius and complimentary self-parking.
Continuing Education Units
Nursing—CMSA-KC is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Kansas State Board of Nursing. This course offering has been submitted for approval for contact hours which are applicable for RN, LPN, and LMHT re-licensure. Kansas State Board of Nursing Provider number: LT 0206-0606. NeuroRestorative is sponsoring the nursing CE credits.
Speech Pathologists—This program is offered for 1.0 CEUs (Intermediate level; Professional area). Credits are sponsored by SSM Rehabilitation Hospital.
Social Work—NeuroRestorative is sponsoring the social work continuing education credits through the state of Illinois.
Case Managers—CCM CEU’s provided by NeuroRestorative.
Rehabilitation Service Providers/Vocational Counselors—CCRC CEU’s provided by NeuroRestorative.
Psychology—This program is co-sponsored by the Missouri Psychological Association (MPA) and the Brain Injury Association of Missouri. (BIA-MO). MOPA is approved by the American Psychological Association to offer continuing education for psychologists. MOPA maintains responsibility for the program.
